UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON
HEALTH BUILDING II

Building a Healthy Houston

Texas has more medically uninsured residents than anywhere else in the country. Our neighbors are more likely to have major health issues, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and are less likely to be screened for cancer. As the University of Houston makes strides, so does the city and vice versa. Creating a healthier Houston is one of the “Here, We Go” Campaign’s major goals.

With your support, UH will provide greater health outcomes for the community through the new Health Building II. The space gathers a scholarly community of esteemed national experts in diabetes, obesity, biomedical engineering, behavioral health, nursing, optometry, and pharmaceutical health at the University.

Why the Health Building II?

Providing expanded space is critical to accommodate our robust pharmacy program and research community, and to support an underserved population in need of critical health care services. Located in the University of Houston Health District, the Health Building II integrates teaching, research, and clinical programs in the second phase of the development of the University of Houston’s biomedical campus.

Answering the Need

The nine-story, 300,000-square-foot multidisciplinary academic health care center provides a new home for the College of Pharmacy, as well as expanded research space for the UH Division of Research. These consolidated lab facilities will promote critical workforce training in the pharmaceutical and biomedical sectors. They include specialized research and teaching labs, faculty offices, an expanded Health Sciences Library and a mix of teaching spaces. The facility offers direct connections to adjoining Health Sciences buildings on four floors.

Furthermore, the Health Building II will strengthen UH’s relationships with collaborators — particularly Texas Medical Center institutions. It will not only better prepare the future workforce, but will offer collaborators additional space-specific functional areas, expanding into new and underdeveloped areas of research. It will also enable new partnerships that benefit students, faculty, health care providers and, ultimately, individual patients and entire communities.

Naming Opportunities

Naming opportunities exist for all floors of the Health Building II – and also for individual classrooms, lecture halls, conference rooms and computer/study areas. Naming an area of one of the University’s newest facilities will show your commitment to UH’s “Here, We Go” Campaign and its goal of creating a healthy Houston.
