UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON
FERTITTA CENTER
Maintaining UH Athletics Momentum
In the new Guy V. Lewis Development Facility, the University of Houston has a state-of-the-art structure for our student-athletes to train and study as they become champions for life. Construction of the Fertitta Center and adjacent Hofheinz Plaza will bring UH’s basketball facilities into the 21st century in spectacular fashion.
To continue our trajectory on the court, we must keep pace with conference and regional competitors, aiding in the recruitment of elite prospects and maintaining strong leadership of our basketball programs.
Providing a first-class, state-of-the-art facility
The Fertitta Center will be the game day home to Houston’s men’s and women’s basketball programs and will include:
- New exterior to complement the architectural design of the Guy V. Lewis Development Facility
- Newly created Hofheinz Plaza will feature a bronze statue of Judge Roy Hofheinz greeting fans
- Fan experience enhancements such as expanded concession stands, audio system and LED video boards
- New premium fan amenities, including a courtside club along with a premium club area
- Reconfigured seating arrangement with seats closer to the floor and improved access to the concourse
- An enhanced student section that will place students close to the court and provide a true home court advantage
A Legacy of Excellence
UH’s decorated history includes 24 combined men’s and women’s NCAA Tournament appearances, five NCAA Final Four berths, nine conference championships and seven conference tournament crowns. Legendary Cougar players account for three of the Top 50 Greatest Players in NBA History: Elvin Hayes (’85), Hakeem Olajuwon (FS ’84), Clyde Drexler (’03) and those three, along with Coach Guy V. Lewis (’68, M.Ed. ’76) are permanently enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Elite Athletics Facilities: a Priority
When you look at University of Houston athletics facilities, the desire to provide the best is clear. From TDECU Stadium to the Baseball Player Development Center at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park and the Dave Williams Golf Academy to a new football indoor practice facility, the University has shown a strong commitment to our student-athletes and coaches. The Fertitta Center is the next step to ensuring UH compares favorably with the nation’s best.
