ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT, UNIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT
Russell serves as Assistant Vice President for University Development where he is responsible for the fundraising operations of the University’s sixteen academic colleges and the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services.
Russell joined the University in 2008 as Director of Development for the Cullen College of Engineering where he worked closely with college and University leadership to help donors achieve their philanthropic goals by supporting student scholarships, faculty support, research initiatives and new and improved facilities. Russell was promoted to Senior Director of Development and then Chief Development Officer for the Cullen College before taking on additional fundraising responsibilities for multiple STEM colleges in 2016. He was elevated to his current role in 2017.
Russell received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Texas Tech University in 2002 and 2005 respectively where he also worked as a fundraiser prior to joining the University of Houston.
Russell comes from a cougar family with both of his parents and brother being graduates of the University of Houston along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. His wife, Kelley, is an alumna of Texas Tech University and they are proud parents of their daughter Ellie.
